Women in Artisanal and Small Scale Mining Uganda: Regulation, Barriers and Benefits

This study gives an overview of women in artisanal and small scale mining Uganda (ASM). It sheds light on regulatory framework while citing the barrier benefits. In summary finding are namely; - (i) Many studies describe how male dominated industry is. (ii) Women play a significant role ASM, however, much their work takes place illegally. Africa alone ASM workforce comprises 40-50 % women. (iii) Although many exact number involved remains largely unknown. (iv) is source livelihood has other social economic benefits for poor rural families Uganda. (v) The reveals key barriers that face suggest what can be done to make it more gender responsive.
